We want everyone to be able to use this website, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification or voice control, and people who are sensitive to motion.
Our standard
We aim for the site to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, the current international standard published by the W3C.
What the site does
- Every page works with a keyboard alone, with a clear focus outline and a "Skip to content" link.
- Text meets contrast requirements in both the light and dark themes. The site follows your device setting, and the switch in the header changes it.
- Pages reflow to a single column on narrow screens and when zoomed to 400%, without sideways scrolling.
- If your device asks for reduced motion, animation and the 3D model on the home page are switched off and a still drawing is shown instead.
- Moving text can be paused with a button, and menus close with the Escape key.
- Images have text alternatives, and decorative graphics are hidden from screen readers.
- Forms have visible labels, mark required fields, and report errors in text.
- The analytics notice and the switch that turns analytics off can be used by keyboard and screen reader.
How we test
Every page is checked against the WCAG 2.2 A and AA success criteria with automated testing in both themes, on desktop and phone sizes, and by keyboard for focus order and visibility. We review the site again whenever we make significant changes.
Known limitations
- The 3D model on the home page is a visual illustration. Everything it shows is also given as text on the page.
- Some photographs are illustrative stock images and do not show our own projects.
