Plant Engineering

The whole facility designed and built, then kept reliable once it runs.

Plant engineering covers the whole facility, not only the process. We plan the economical use of land, building and space, and arrange machinery, equipment, furniture and utilities to keep material movement and handling to a minimum. The result is flexible operations, a better place to work and a safer plant. We apply proven engineering principles, techniques and technology to the plant’s design, construction and maintenance, improving the performance, efficiency and safety of its processes.

Design and construction

Treated as one integrated system: a new facility described in detailed plans and specifications, then built.

Scope of work

  1. Identification of activities and resources
  2. Architects and engineers engaged for the detailed design and drawings
  3. Site conditions mapped: weather, labour supply, local building codes
  4. Formal approval of the final plans and designs with the client
  5. Project time plan finalised in phases
  6. Civil and related works started and implemented
  7. Changes handled during implementation as the site demands

Maintenance and reliability

We support every part of maintenance engineering: management, planning and budgeting.

For reliability, we correct the equipment problems behind excessive downtime and maintenance work, with the focus on eliminating repeat failures.

Effective maintenance contributes to improved reliability.

Scope of services

  • Preventive maintenance. Regular tasks on a fixed schedule, to prevent failures and extend the life of the asset.
  • Corrective maintenance. Restoring equipment to normal operation after a fault, quickly, to get planned availability back.
  • Predetermined maintenance. Routine servicing and part replacement defined from the equipment’s history and industry standards.
  • Condition-based maintenance. Real-time monitoring with diagnostic tools, with maintenance planned when a threshold is reached.
  • Predictive maintenance. Condition data, history and trends analysed to predict failures and plan the work, reducing unplanned downtime and raising availability.
  • Reactive maintenance. On-time support in emergencies, when a failure needs immediate action.
  • Reliability metrics. Failure rate, mean time between failures, mean time to failure and mean time to repair.
  • Maintenance budgeting. Budgets built from business objectives, resource allocation, workforce and skills, and spares, consumables and tool inventory, with the KPIs to track them.
